Hello quilters, I am back!
Where did I go you ask,
well not far but life sure tried to
tear me in two over the past couple of years.
My Aunt retired from her job of 30+ years at the local
school, two days after that my Uncle B. (aunt g’s brother) was diagnosed with
skin cancer. The cancer was located near his eye and required surgery to remove
it. It was supposed to be a simple fix, in and out of removal surgery one day
and back the second day to start the reconstruction. However, it didn’t go as
simply as it was supposed to. The removal surgery went well but it was
discovered that the cancer had gone from his skin into the bone around his eye.
So, during the second surgery the following day some infected bone had to be
removed. Surgery went well however after surgery he had a heart attack.
Luckily, we were in a very good hospital with great staff and it was handled
very well. He went back into surgery a day later and they discovered multiple
blockages in his heart. They placed two stints and informed him of another
blockage that they could not fix at the time as it was in a location they did
not like to work on unless 100% necessary. He spent six days in hospital nearly
two hours away from home. Treatments for the cancer were necessary so we spent
another month going to the local cancer center every weekday. Everything that
has happened has slowed him down a lot, but he is not willing to admit to it.
Luckily, we have a big family with lots of them living close by that can and
did help out with things that he normally took care of. My brother helped with
the garden, my cousins helped tear off the old porch as well as many other
things around the yard. I don’t know what we would have done without their
help.
During this time another family member was diagnosed with
another type of cancer. She is fine, but it did add to the list of worries.
Also, my cousin finally left her extremely abusive husband. She and her son
have moved around to a few different family members homes, but they are now
doing a bit better. The divorce is final and both mother and son seem to have a
large weight lifted off their shoulders.
I caught a nasty flu bug and was down for nearly a month. I
had no choice but to close up shop while I tried to get over everything.
Between that and running Uncle B. to get his treatments every day I got so far
behind on work I began to think I was never going to get everything finished. I
had to stop taking quilts in September of this year. I wasn’t ready for that to
happen, but I knew if I didn’t I would never get caught up with my work.
During all this I was able to get a couple of quilts Juried
into national shows. My quilt titled Dresden Dream Take 2 went to MQX Midwest
in Springfield IL. this past October and MY Aunt G and I’s quilt titled
Midnight Garden was excepted into the AQS Fall Paducah Show. More on both of
these shows soon I promise!
Needless to say, it has been a very eventful couple of
years. Now can 2018 be a bit less eventful please?!
